The most famous structure at Kabah is the "Palace of the Masks", the façade decorated with hundreds of stone masks of the big-nosed rain God Chaac.
Workers are still diligently working on the buildings at Kabah, piecing together some of the details found at this site. An alternative name is Kabahaucan or "royal snake in the hand". Even by today´s standards, the Puuc Maya were without a doubt some of the most ingenious builders and artists when it came to stone and plaster. Two impressive sculptures grace the facade of one of the temples, amazingly well-preserved considering their fragility and exposed location.A large pyramid at Kabah is still awaiting to be uncovered in the future. No one knows what artistic treasures may be found under the overgrown jungle trees and vines that cover its surface. The area was first inhabited in the mid-3rd century BC. Most of the architecture now visible was built between the 7th century and 11th centuries AD.The most famous structure at Kabah is the "Palace of the Masks", the façade decorated with hundreds of stone masks of the big-nosed rain God Chaac. The vintage Land Rovers you will be driving are just like what the British archeologists used at the beginning of the excavation and restoration of Kabah and Chichen Itza. You will get to drive these rugged, classic vehicles through the jungle, past local fruit plantations, inside an antique hacienda where we will learn about this important period in Yucatán history. It will be a unique opportunity to feel a part of the past from the seat of your pants.
