As home to the world's second longest barrier reef, it's not surprising that many of the traditional dishes include fresh seafood. Now that you're a local foodie expert, it's time to try your hand at creating a truly Belizean dish of your own.
You will discover a tropical method of cooking as you create delicious seafood ceviche. Fresh, tangy and often spiced with habanero pepper if you're brave, you will “chef your ceviche”, just to your liking. Paired with corn tortilla and tropical salad, this refreshing dish is one you will be sure to create again. Relax and enjoy the cool ocean breeze with lively tunes from a local artist.

The tour isn't exactly how it is described. You will go to one coffee shop and sample several different dishes. The history of Belize is also given along with the history of the food tasted. Absolutely wonderful!!
Then there is a short tour of the city which I enjoyed very much.
The fruit “market” is one small fruit stand run by one lady. It is located across from the school in what appears to be a safe area. We stood on the street at the stand. The people were amazingly friendly. We sampled several fruits. This part was nice, but I actually expected a market, lol.
The cafe where we made serveci was very beautiful. Making the dish and eating it was fun. Unfortunately, the group was turned over to a local DJ for entertainment. He was funny at first, but too long winded. Sampling the rum was fun, but the encouragement of multiple alcohol purchases got old fast.
In all, we really enjoyed the tour but there were just a few things that could be tweaked.
By the way, you will NOT get full on this tour. The samples are just that, samples. And the dish you make at the end is not a meal....it is a small appetizer.
Yes, I recommend this shore excursion.

I was expecting to go to several cafe's/food stalls but there were only 3. We did however taste a lot of different cuisines in the first stop (very yummy). They had several different levels of heat in the hot sauce - careful if you don't like it hot. You could, however, eat without any hot sauce. We then went to a farmer's market stall (just one) and tried several of the produce in season. Third stop was an 'on the water' café where we made ceviche (so easy to do). We were also entertained by the stylings of Kenny G (local DJ at the 'on the water' café). Really enjoyed this.
Yes, I recommend this shore excursion.

My husband and I went on this excursion because none of the others appealed. We are not "foodie" people so wondered if we would enjoy or not. It was fun. Our guide, Dillon, was great and entertaining. We sampled local cuisine which was delicious. We also sampled fruit from a local fruit stand which was also delicious. In addition, we got to see parts of Belize City. I highly recommend this excursion.

Our tour guide was informative. We started with a short walk to a local coffee house, There we got to try a variety of local dishes including "Johnny cakes", beef and chicken patties, various habanera hot sauces and some plantain chips, We received lots of information about local foods and customs. To bad we didn't taste enough of them. We then took a bus through town, with a description of all we saw, to a local produce stand. Please note there was a lot of standing around at this stop as we tasted pineapple, watermelon, cantaloupe, and mango that was not ripe. We can get all this from are local stores where we live.
Yes we got back on the bus and drove around some more and stopped to make Ceviche and paid extra for are drinks. that was the end of the food experience. They asked if we were still hungry and if we where please purchase. The price of this excursion and what we did really was not worth it won't recommend unless they add more real local food. Money value 2 thumbs down.
No, I do not recommend this shore excursion.

We loved this tour. Melanie and Lanette did an excellent job explaining the food and giving us tons of info about the island. They made us feel welcomed and very relaxed. Our excursion only had 24 ppl so it gave us an opportunity to ask questions and even try more food. I would definitely recommend this tour. It was well organized!
